Meet Robert Hill

For more than two decades, Robert A. Hill has successfully represented major companies in property tax appeals through both negotiations with tax assessors and litigation.  His dedication to his clients has helped businesses throughout the United States save tens of millions in property taxes.

As noted, Mr. Hill has earned Martindale-Hubbell's highest peer review rating of AV-Preeminent for his legal knowledge, communication skills, high ethical standards, and his representation of clients in significant property tax cases.

Experienced in High-Stakes Property Tax Cases

Robert Hill acted as lead counsel in the precedent-setting case of Walgreen Co. v. City of Madison.  This case has implications for property taxpayers located not only in Wisconsin, but throughout the United States. The case was so influential that it was featured by Grant Thornton, LLP in its State & Local Tax Alert with the comment that "many never thought the Wisconsin Supreme Court would rule in this manner."

Mr. Hill has also achieved major victories in the Minnesota Supreme Court for a number of taxpayers, including McNeilus Truck & Manufacturing and the Southern Minnesota Beet Sugar Cooperative.  He has obtained large settlements outside of court as well, including for the Hormel Company, United Health Group, Medtronic, Gander Mountain, Coborns, CVS, Walgreens, and a vast array of large, medium, and small manufacturers throughout the United States.

Sharing World-Class Litigation Experience with the Community

In addition to litigating major tax law cases, Mr. Hill is very active within the Twin Cities community and believes in lending his legal skills to worthwhile public interest causes. He has taken on many challenging public interest cases, including:

  • Nielsen v. Bohnen, a case involving anti-SLAPP protections.
  • Jane Turner v. Alberto Gonzales, a case involving EEO retaliation.
  • Sletten v. Ramsey County, a case involving mold contamination.
  • Programmed Land v. O'Connor, a case about illegal property taxation.
  • Lindgren v. MCTO, involving a government whistleblower.
